Full Exposure

Aachen, Germany

Here again I'll go back on a rather intense trip into the past. Nearly 8 years ago I met this young lady featured in this scene for the first time. We did, what I used to call "a visual jam session". This was the first time she ever stood in front of a camera - at all. So, to get acquainted with each other, we just took our time, experimented with some portrait stuff and just played along with the exiting flow that developed during the shoot. That was in 2011.

Now, in 2017, here's the evolution of what we began with. Since I'm a passionate fan of analogue photography (because I grew up in these ages of exposing and chemically developing my pictures) I thought it would be interesting stitching these two waypoints together in one image. Travelling back in time but still sticking to the "here-and-now". Now, let me take you to the darkroom: Here you can see the chemically driven process of developing the old pictures. Physically performed by just that young woman from way back when.

PORTFOLIO #278

"It is a cruel, ironical art, photography. The dragging of captured moments into the future; moments that should have been allowed to be evaporate into the past; should exist only in memories, glimpsed through the fog of events that came after. Photographs force us to see people before their future weighed them down....”
